

Bill Briggs has practiced law with the firm since 1970 and has extensive legal
experience with special emphasis on general civil litigation, personal injury claims,
real estate, wills, trusts & probate and municipal law. He is a 1967 cum laude
graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead and a 1970 graduate of the
University of Minnesota Law School where he was a member of the Moot Court
Team and received a Bush Foundation Criminal Justice Grant. Mr. Briggs
completed Certified Alternative Dispute Resolution Training and has been involved
in mediation and arbitration throughout his career. He is a member of the
Minnesota Defense Lawyers Association, Minnesota State Bar Association, Seventh
Judicial District Bar Association, Becker County Bar Association, and Minnesota
Association of City Attorneys.
Mr. Briggs is City Attorney for Detroit Lakes and served as President of the
Minnesota Association of City Attorneys, President of the Becker County Bar
Association, member of the Seventh Judicial Ethics Committee, member of the
Municipal Amicus Project Board of Directors.
Mr. Briggs led St. Mary's Regional Health Center as its Board Chair and served on
the Board of parent organization, the Benedictine Health System of Duluth
Minnesota.
Mr. Briggs has held leadership positions in many community organizations including
Detroit Lakes Kiwanis President, Detroit Lakes United Way President, Becker
County Developmental Achievement Center President, Becker-Lakes Industrial
Development Corporation President, Detroit Lakes Jaycees and Dollars for
Scholars Boards of Directors.
When not working for the firm's clients, Bill enjoys hunting, fishing, sailing, traveling,
reading and spending time with his family. Bill and his wife, Mary, are the proud
parents of two children and recently became grandparents.
